Philip Björkqvist

Bass-baritone Philip Björkqvist graduated with a Master’s degree in 2017 from the University College of Opera in Stockholm, where he studied with Robert Hyman. Prior to that, he graduated from the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover. In 2012 Philip Björkqvist made his debut at Theater Osnabrück as Melisso/ Händel's Alcina. He returned to Osnabrück in 2013 in the role of Der Mut/Telemann's Der aus der Löwengrube errettete Daniel. In productions of the Hochschule he sang Seneca in L’Incoronazione di Poppea, Herr Olsen/ Kurt Weill’sThe street scene, Dr.Cajus/ Die Lustigen Weiber von Windsor and Theseus/ Britten’s A midsummer night’s dream. In 2014 he appeared as Il Carceriere/ Toscawith the Norddeutsche Rundfunk Symphony Orchestra at the Open Air Festival in Hannover. The performance was broadcast live on the TV channel NDR. The same year he sang with the NDR symphony orchestra once again, this time in a Mass based upon Mozart's Così fan tutte. In the summer of 2016 he sang Zuniga/Carmen with the Berlin Opera Academy.
In 2017/2018 Philip Björkqvist appeared as Figaro/ Le Nozze di Figaro in the highly-acclaimed production for Finland’s 100th birthday festivities with Västerås Sinfonietta, under the baton of Anna-Maria Helsing. At the Vadstena Summer Festival 2018 he participated in the production Solen och Nordstjärnan, opéra-ballet pour Louis XIV et Charles XIIwith music by Lully, Desfontaines and Düben.
